Domaine Chante Cigale 2015 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge

Chante Cigale means singing cicada. The property has been in the family since the 19th century and is currently run by Alexandre Favier, who assumed the reins at the ripe old age of 20! The domaine is planted to 40 ha of red and 5 ha of white on 45 different parcels throughout the appellation. The red is made with 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault using native yeasts and matured in a mix of foudres, tanks, and a small amount of new and used barrels.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 94 Points

"One surprise to emerge from this blind tasting was the super performance of Chante Cigale's 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape. This full-bodied blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault boasts wonderfully supple, creamy tannins, raspberry and cherry fruit, and a dusting of cinnamon and allspice on the long, dusty finish. Bravo! (JC) Another rising star, the young Alexander Favier continues to release deep, rich and concentrated Châteauneuf du Papes that have beautiful purity of fruit as well as classic Southern Rhône characters. The 2015s across the board look to be outstanding wines."

Vinous - 91-93 Points

"Vivid ruby-red. Powerful cherry and black raspberry scents are complemented by hints of licorice pastille and potpourri. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering appealing sweet red and dark berry and spicecake flavors and repeating florality. Tightens up slowly and becomes spicier on the finish, which clings with impressive tenacity and smooth tannins."
