Domaine Chante Cigale 2017 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge

Chante Cigale means singing cicada. The property has been in the family since the 19th century and is currently run by Alexandre Favier, who assumed the reins at the ripe old age of 20! The domaine is planted to 40 ha of red and 5 ha of white on 45 different parcels throughout the appellation. The red is made with 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault using native yeasts and matured in a mix of foudres, tanks, and a small amount of new and used barrels.

Jeb Dunnuck - 92-94 Points

"Not yet bottled, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape nevertheless is loaded with potential. Rocking notes of black raspberries, new saddle leather, spring flowers, and ground pepper all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, deep, layered 2017 that has ripe tannins and a great finish. It's going to hit the ground running and drink spectacularly well for 10-15 years. The blend is 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and the balance Cinsault, brought up in foudre and demi-muids."

Vinous - 91-92 Points

"Deep crimson. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes smoky red and blue fruits, potpourri, licorice, game and garrigue. Stains the palate with sweet boysenberry, black raspberry and lavender pastille flavors sharpened by building spice and mineral notes. Finishes with strong tenacity, a touch of smoked meat and youthfully gripping tannins."
