Foxen 2020 Chenin Blanc Ernesto Wickenden Vineyard
Foxen 2020 Chenin Blanc Ernesto Wickenden Vineyard
Foxen 2020 Chenin Blanc Ernesto Wickenden Vineyard

Foxen co-founder Dick Doré is a sixth-generation Santa Barbara native, the winery bearing the name of a great-great-great-grandfather who set anchor off the coast here in the 19th century and never left (hence the distinctive Foxen logo). The winery was one of the first established in Santa Barbara County in the early 1980s, and he and winemaker Bill Wathen have been producing reference point single-vineyard wines from this neighborhood ever since. Their Chenin Blanc hails from the Ernesto Wickenden vineyard, a plot of old vines planted in 1966. The wine is a powerhouse of concentration and texture, to be expected from what is probably the oldest Chenin vineyard in the United States and some of the oldest vines of any kind in Santa Barbara County. Rich in palate weight and redolent of tropical fruits, the wine also exhibits profound savory complexity in aroma and flavor. It's a singular, distinctive wine by any measure.
