Hilary Goldschmidt 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Charming Creek
Named for Nick Goldschmidt's youngest daughter and this Cab has an amazing pedigree. Planted in 1980 Charming Creek vineyard, in the heart of Oakville used to be sourced for the iconic and stratospheric Napa/Bordeaux collaboration wine (you know the One). Of course Robert Mondavi's vineyards are next door as are Nickel & Nickel vineyards. This is about as prime a location as it gets in Napa Valley. Good draining, gravelly Oakville soils lead to low yields and bold, expressive flavors. Leave it to Nick Goldschmidt to track down Cab of this quality. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine aged 20 months in 100% French oak barrels, 20% new. Deep purple; core aromas of amarena wild cherry, raspberry, and blackberry. Copious black fruit flavors are accentuated by cola and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, smooth, and supple with fine tannins and spicy notes in the finish.
