Klipsun 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain
Dark garnet verging on purple. Mouth coating intensity, ripe blackberry flavors with a hint of herbs that is the hallmark of wines from Red Mountain. While the wine is big & rich its pleasant mouthfeel is a result of carefully managed tannins which are evident, but seamless. If you prefer wine with lots of fruit, it could be consumed in the near term, or if you like more cedar and cigar box aromas it should be aged for 10 to 15 years. Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5% Syrah
Jeb Dunnuck - 96 Points "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is brilliant stuff and comes from the Klipsun Vineyard on Red Mountain. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 5% Syrah, aged 20 months in new oak, its deep purple color is followed by powerful notes of currants, graphite, toasted spices, and scorched earth. These give way to a full-bodied, concentrated, yet beautifully balanced Cabernet that has fine tannins, terrific purity of fruit, and a great finish. It needs 2-3 years of bottle age but is a 20+ year wine."
Wine Spectator - 96 Points "Refined and impressively structured, with handsome currant, black olive and stony mineral notes that build richness and polish on a lingering finish. Drink now through 2029."
Wine & Spirits - 93 Points "A packed Red Mountain wine, this is the first release from the Terlato wine group since it purchased Klipsun Vineyard from David and Patricia Gelles in 2017. This debut leads with rich and tarry oak scents, along with notes of pencil lead, tobacco leaf and purple berries. The flavors are powerful and silky at once, filling out after days open, the tannic grip growing more refined and elegant with air. It has the stuffing to age, or pour with a black and blue steak."
