Morlet 2016 Ma Douce Chardonnay Sonoma County
Morlet 2016 Ma Douce Chardonnay Sonoma County

Morlet 2013 Ma Douce Sonoma County Chardonnay

The cool maritime breeze and mild and sunny mountain climate create ideal conditions for this hillside vineyard located on the second ridge from the Paci?c Ocean. Handcrafted using classical Burgundian winemaking techniques, this wine is dedicated to Jodie Morlet. It is ‘My Sweet’ or ‘Ma Douce.’

Full yellow color. Aromas of lemon drop, Crème Brulée and orange zest intermixed with strong notes of minerality (wet stones) and fresh hazelnut. Full-bodied, mineral driven, this wine displays a creamy texture and very long mineral finish. Built to age gracefully for a decade, this wine is already very approachable.

"Leading off the Chardonnays, the 2016 Chardonnay Ma Douce (which translates to “My Sweet”) is a rich, full-bodied, blockbuster effort that still stays incredibly pure, seamless, and elegant. Heavenly notes of crushed citrus, flower oil, brioche, toasted nuts, and ample crushed rock notes all emerge from the glass, and it has vibrant acidity and is perfectly balanced. It’s a world-class Chardonnay."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 95 Points
"The 2016 Chardonnay Ma Douce is from a vineyard in Fort Ross Sea View not far from Marcassin, on the second ridge in from the ocean and located at 1,300-1,500 feet in elevation. The vines are Old Wente clones planted on Goldridge soils. It begins a little youthfully reticent, opening out to notes of warm peaches, grapefruit, pear tart and toasted almond with hints of baking bread and chalk dust. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a beautifully satiny texture with a racy line lifting the savory layers to a nice long finish. 650 cases were made."

Morlet Wines
Luc & Jodie Morlet produce vineyard designated wines and unique cuvées of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle from Sonoma County as well as Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley. Meticulously farmed vineyards and low-intervention winemaking techniques produce powerful yet refined wines.

By taking old world principles and adapting them to California, the Morlet style results in wines which are harmonious in their intensity, richness, complexity and refinement. It is this notion of harmony that inspired their label logo, based upon 19th century French artist Mathurin Moreau’s sculpture entitled, ‘L’Harmonie’. Handcrafted, the Morlet wines clearly display personality, seamless character and graceful ageing capability.

The core of the Morlets’ endeavor is the eight-acre vineyard they planted on the Knights Valley bench, near Calistoga and facing the western slopes of Mount St. Helena. In addition to these family acres, they direct the farming under long-term contract on seven acres in the Sonoma Coast, Bennett Valley and Dry Creek as well as five acres in Oakville, Napa Valley. In St. Helena, near the family home, the wines are crafted and matured in a naturally cool cave, which was drilled into the volcanic rock. The production is limited to what they can make with their own hands.

Sold in the spring and the fall of each year through an online mailing list offering and in fine restaurants around the world, the Morlet wines are served at the most prestigious tables and are shared by wine connoisseurs and collectors.
