Pride Mountain Vineyards 2016 Cabernet Franc Napa Valley
Pride Mountain Vineyards 2016 Cabernet Franc
This wine has lovely aromas of strawberry, raspberry and other red fruits, as well as a plethora of floral nuances including jasmine, violet and lily of the valley. Subtle notes of eucalyptus, cloves, crushed leaves and peppermint add complexity and play to the flavor profile. On the palate, the 2014 Cabernet Franc is round and rich, with tannins that are mouth-coatingly present but not aggressive.

For this vintage, we have blended in slightly more cabernet sauvignon than we typically use, for a total of 11% of the blend. The cabernet sauvignon adds a bit of size and structure to the mouth. We have also used 8.5% merlot to enhance the lush, ripe fruit character.

Wine Advocate - 93 Points
"The 2014 Cabernet Franc, which sees 18 months in 40% new French oak, is actually a blend of 80.5% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Deep opaque purple in color, with notes of spring ?owers, black raspberries and blueberries, the wine hits the palate with more ?orest ?oor and ?oral notes, a continuation of the blue and red fruit ?avor spectrum, some nice spice, and ?nely tuned sweet tannin. This medium to full-bodied beauty should drink nicely for 10-15+ years."

Pride Mountain Philosophy

Our aim is to make big red wines on the black-fruit side of the ripeness spectrum that nonetheless maintain balance, nuance, and complexity. We want our wines to be approachable in their youth, yet to age beneficially for ten to fifteen years. How best to achieve these goals is something we continue to experiment with in small lot trials.
There is sometimes an unfortunate division between wine enthusiasts seeking the elegant nuances of aged French wines, and those seeking the intense fruit concentration of younger California wines. Our attitude is that each wine growing region has its own unique expression that can be embraced and enjoyed for what it is. In California, we have the ability to achieve a level of ripeness that is simply not possible in France. How to make a wine that celebrates this unique gift of ripeness without sacrificing structure, complexity and balance, is an artistic challenge that continues to be our raison detre here at Pride Mountain Vineyards.
